A good rule of thumb is to hang art at eye level.  This means 57 to 60 inches would be center when measuring from the floor. This height ensures that the art is easily viewed and complements the furniture beneath it.

Large blank walls require appropriately sized pieces to avoid looking sparse, while small walls should feature smaller or grouped pieces. If you have a large piece of art, it can become the focal point of the room. For smaller pieces, consider grouping them into a gallery wall to create impact.

Hi everyone! I wanted to share a little bit about my journey as an oil artist and what inspires my work. I paint just about anything that catches my eye or stirs something inside me — from horses and patriotic scenes to my very own koi pond. My husband and I are members of an Airstream club, so you’ll often see paintings of Airstream trailers nestled into different seasonal landscapes, too.

I find inspiration in the most unexpected places. Sometimes it’s just a conversation or a question someone throws my way—like “Have you ever painted a cityscape, a fountain, or a stag on a misty morning?” Those moments spark my imagination and push me into new creative territory.

Take the painting I’m sharing here, for example. It’s inspired by my koi pond, but I didn’t want to paint it exactly as it looks. Instead, I picked some of my favorite colors—vibrant oranges, cool blues, and soft aquas—and played around with different shades. I even threw in some complementary colors here and there, whether or not they made conventional sense. After sketching out the fish, I worked on balancing them with lilies and capturing the light, shadow, and depth of the water surrounding them.
